Harry Cobden Rides for Lavelle at Newbury

We head to Newbury for the British EBF "National Hunt" Mares' Novices' Hurdle (Limited Handicap Grade 2) run over two miles, four and a half furlongs.

Fifteen runners are declared to race for a first prize of £33,820.

Watamu has run well over hurdles so far at the minimum distance. She is learning to settle and should stay two and a half miles. Harry Cobden knows her well and no better jockey to get her to drop the bit and finish off her race. Watamu has run around Newbury twice in November.

Watamu beat Khrisma over two miles at Huntingdon and then ran well on unsuitable soft ground to place third to Khrisma at Market Rasen. A talented mare who will hopefully pull it all together in this race. A tricky contest for punters with most of these mares unexposed over hurdles so far.

Newbury 3:00

1 point each way Watamu 8/1 Bet365 else 15/2 Skybet, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

Hi Reader The first classic of the year takes place at Newmarket on the Rowley Mile. It's a difficult race to assess with several fancied horses missing the race due to setbacks. We take aim at the earlier heritage handicap over a mile and a furlong. I am looking for an improved performance from a four year old following his good comeback run last month.
