Carlisle Silver Bowl Heritage Handicap Preview..

Hi Reader

The Silver Bowl Stakes is a flat handicap horse race for three-year-olds, run at Haydock Park over 1 mile, typically held at the end of May.

Due to a hole in the course the race had to be abandoned at Haydock last Saturday. Thankfully, it is due to be run at Carlisle today. It's tight and might just allow enough time for these 3yo's to recover for the upcoming Royal Ascot meeting.

Let's get into today's preview and tips.

Crest of Fire Ready to Ignite the Silver Bowl

A field of sixteen runners for the rescheduled Silver Bowl heritage handicap at Carlisle.

We backed Crest of Fire in the abandoned race at Haydock last Saturday. I am staying loyal to the Jack Channon trained runner in the rescheduled Silver Bowl Handicap run at Carlisle. Crest of Fire likes to run on the frontend as he did when winning eased down on his return at Southwell in March. That was his first run of the season following a gelding operation over the winter. David Probert is booked to ride this week, and a very able jockey Davis is for sure.

It’s the form Crest of Fire brings from his 3yo campaign that points to a well handicapped horse. He finished fourth beaten two lengths to Laureate Crown on quick ground at Ascot over seven furlongs. He meets Laureate Crown on ten pounds better terms with the mile distance a positive.

McMurray beat Crest of Fire twice last season with only a neck separating them off level weights at Doncaster last September on good to soft ground. McMurray won at the recent Chester Festival and is up to a rating of 94. It leaves me to believe that Crest of Fire has pounds in hand and hopefully enough to land this big pot.

** Crest of Fire has been tipped in the racing post by Tom Segal and Paul Kealy in the Racing Post. As a result, his price has shortened overnight to 11/4, with 3/1 still available in places. I would wait until the afternoon to see whether he drifts to 4/1 or bigger before backing him.

A bigger priced alternative would be Daydreama for Tim Easterby. Tim does well with his runners at Carlisle and Daydreama has already won at Carlisle. He was a hampered at York in a 7-furlong race when second to Startled at the Dante meeting. Startled franked that form with a second in a valuable handicap at Goodwood last Saturday.

Carlisle 3:45

0.5 point each-way Crest of Fire 4/1 or bigger else leave alone.

0.5 point each-way Daydreama 18/1 Bet365 else 18/1 William Hill, 4 places.

Best of Luck, Nicky

Latest winner: Urban Lion @ 12/1
