Epsom 'Dash' Heritage Handicap Preview..

Hi Reader

The Epsom Dash is a flat handicap race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Epsom over a distance of 5 furlongs, and it is scheduled to take place before the Epsom Derby each year in early June.

The Epsom five furlongs course, which is downhill until the last 100 yards, is reputed to be the fastest of its kind in the world. The current world record for five furlongs, 53.69 seconds, was set by Stone of Folca in this race in 2012.

Let's get into today's preview and tips.

A Woman's Touch in the Epsom Dash

A field of twenty runners line up for "the Dash" on Derby day!

Kinswoman has been handed a favourable high draw in stall seventeen. She is a remarkably consistent filly, with three wins from 10 starts and no finish outside the first four. Her victory over Trilby at Haydock towards the end of last season was particularly taking, and she returned with another solid effort at Yarmouth last month, going down by only a neck to Naana’s Sparkle.

A three-pound rise does not look excessive on that evidence, and she remains of interest with the likelihood of further improvement from her reappearance. Tom Marquand replaces Cieren Fallon aboard the Mehmas filly, who represents owner/breeder, Cheveley Park Stud.

King of Light was withdrawn at York after acting up at the start, but he has since passed a stalls test. He shaped well on his seasonal return at Goodwood, where he finished second to Lexington Blitz. If breaking on terms from a respectable draw in stall 11, he should be capable of giving a good account. The forecast 5mm of rain would also be in his favour.

This dependable four-year-old scored in first-time cheekpieces over five furlongs at Haydock last September, and Tom Morley paid £70,000 to secure him at the July Sales in 2025. With that Goodwood run behind him, King of Light should improve and looks capable of making his presence felt.

Epsom 3:15

0.5 point each-way King of Light 14/1 William HIll & Betfred, 5 places.

Best of Luck, Nicky
