Macmillan Sprint Handicap Preview..

Hi Reader

The Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint Handicap is a highly competitive, Class 2 flat horse race for three-year-olds. Run over six furlongs at York Racecourse in North Yorkshire, UK, it is the feature race of the annual Macmillan Charity Raceday.

Here are a few quick facts about the event:

  • The Cause: The race anchors the UK's biggest charity raceday. The day's events—which include the amateur "Ride of Their Lives" charity race—have historically raised over £11 million for Macmillan Cancer Support.
  • Prize Money: It is one of Britain's richest sprint handicaps for three-year-olds, boasting total prize money of £125,000.
  • History & Prestige: The race often serves as a proving ground for pattern-class sprinters, with previous winners and participants frequently going on to compete in major Group-level events

Let's get into today's preview and tips.

Man of Vision Sets Sights on Macmillan Sprint Handicap

A maximum field of twenty two runners line up for the Macmillan Sprint Handicap!

Charlie Appleby runs Man of Vision, who lost out by a neck at Newmarket on Guineas weekend, when the yard was out of form. I like runners from that Newmarket handicap turning up for this valuable 3yo York handicap.

Man of Vision showed good speed that day on fast ground, having stepped back in trip after his seven-furlong win at Wolverhampton. The wind has dried the ground at York, and it could well be good to firm by Saturday afternoon. William Buick rides off a nice weight of 8-10, with lots of pace horses drawn high.

Kevin Ryan runs the well-handicapped Alaminos. This horse is proven on fast ground, having won at Thirsk on good to firm last summer. Alaminos would have won at Pontefract on his first start this season but for trouble in running.

The handicapper raised him three pounds and he was sent off favourite at Chester in May, but a poor break and troubled trip left him finishing well from too far back. This son of Pinatubo will be more at home on the straight course at York, where a fast-run race will suit as he stays well. Alex Jary rides and claims three pounds. Alaminos is drawn high like Man of Vision, with plenty of pace horses also drawn high.

York 3:25

0.5 point each way Man of Vision 15/2 Paddy Power, Bet365 & Skybet, 6 places.

0.5 point each way Alaminos 30/1 Paddy Power else 28/1 Skybet & Bet365, 6 places.

Best of Luck, Nicky

Latest winner: Urban Lion @ 12/1
