Hi Reader
The Bet365 Gold Cup is a Premier Handicap National Hunt chase.
It is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Sandown Park over a distance of about 3 miles and 4½ furlongs, and during its running there are twenty-four fences to be jumped. It is a handicap race, and it is scheduled to take place each year in late April.
The event was established in 1957, and it was originally called the Whitbread Gold Cup. It was sponsored by Whitbread Brewers at the instigation of Colonel Bill Whitbread, the company's chairman, who had twice ridden in the Grand National as an amateur jockey.
It was the first commercial sponsorship in British sport, and the longest-running until it ended in 2001.In recent years the race has been sponsored by At the Races (2002–03), Betfred (2004–07) and Bet365 (2008–).

Williams Star Set for Bet365 Gold Cup Assault
A smaller field of only fourteen runners in the bet365 Gold Cup this year.
That could be due to the summer like ground or the recent running of the Aintree and Scottish Nationals. An excellent opportunity for some of these mid class handicapper to land a big pot.
In d’Or has only managed two runs this season since switching yards. Fergal O’Brien saw him as a national horse, but he didn’t get the runs into him to get high enough in the ratings to become a national horse this season. He goes on good ground, jumps naturally and should stay well.
In d’Or ran well here early in the season when beaten only two lengths by Welcom to Cartries. He improved off that first run to placed third at Ascot over three miles in January. The Jukebox Kid won with Montregard second that day and both horses have gone on to win again. In d’or meets Montregard on 7lb better terms and looks to have a good chance as a second season chaser.
Ask Brewster won the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He jumped great up on the frontend enjoying the spring ground at the festival this year. It looked like Ask Brewster was idling after the final fence as once Road to Home came to his hindquarters Ask Brewster pulled away again to win snugly. The front pair quickened clear of the third placed Monbeg Genius.
I think Ask Brewster will love the good ground at Sandown with a good call made not to run on heavy in the Scottish Grand National last weekend. Shane Cotter keeps the ride following his Cheltenham winning ride. Shane claims off seven pounds leaving Ask Brewster with a feather weight of 10-4 to carry. The key is a good start to get him on the frontend and use his fluent jumping to put the rest under pressure.
Resplendent Grey won this race last season and returned with a win in the Colin Parker. However, he has put in two poor runs around a solid second at Windsor behind Protekorat. Which Resplendent Grey turns up today is a guessing game. Willie Mullins runs Road To Home who was withdrawn from the Scottish Grand National last weekend due to the heavy ground at Ayr. Havaila and Montregard are two other inform horses that could run well.
Sandown 3:30
0.5 point each way In d’Or 11/2 Skybet 5 places else 6/1 generally, 4 places.
0.5 point each way Ask Brewster 8/1 Bet365, William Hill & Unibet, 4 places.
Best of Luck,
Nicky
